A portrait you can almost hear.

Red, white and green

A woman strums a guitar and laughs in this lively portrait. She wears a red head covering, a red shawl, large gold hoop earrings and several necklaces.

Her shawl makes a broad sweep of red around the figure, with a white blouse and a green skirt beneath it. The guitar crosses the lower part of the picture, its warm brown and gold tones matching her jewellery, and a plain grey-green background keeps the outline of her hair and shoulders clear.

Small things to look for

There is plenty of small detail to enjoy: the guitar strings, the bracelets on her wrist, the beads of her necklaces, the folds of the blouse. The full-size photograph lets you follow them stitch by stitch. In the source catalogue this tapestry was titled ‘The gypsy’.

Music for a living room

Sewn with 100% DMC threads and photographed in a dark frame with gold-coloured edges, it is one of the most cheerful pieces in the collection. It would bring warmth, and a little music, to a living room or dining room.

Rosi stitched it by hand, so this lively portrait is a one-off.
