Three horses at the watering place

Sewn with passion

Horses gather at the watering place, heads lowered over blue water or turned towards one another. A dark horse in the middle drinks, while a chestnut on the left and a white horse above lean in close.

Rosi counts this among her first tapestries and says she sewed it with passion. It is a small, upright piece, 33 cm wide by 46 cm high, worked in DMC floss.

Their faces carry the picture

The horses fill almost the whole picture, so their faces carry it: the warm chestnut coat, the glossy black in the centre, the pale head at the top. Bridles cross the larger areas of colour in fine lines. Behind the animals, a pointed arch and a blue window suggest a stone building, and the same blue returns in the water below, tying the top of the picture to the bottom.

For a study, a hallway or a country room

With so little landscape around them, the scene feels close and calm, as if you had walked right up to the water's edge. It would sit well in a study, a hallway or a country-style room, and anyone who loves horses will enjoy comparing their different markings.

Every horse was stitched by hand, on this one piece of cloth.
