Almost as much sky as people

Jesus stands at the centre of a gathering beside the water, his arms open wide, while the apostles sit and stand around him. The scene is wide and airy, with almost as much sky as there are people.

His white robe and red drapery set him apart from the blues, browns and ochres around him. The others turn in different directions, as if in the middle of a conversation, and small fires burn on the ground in front of them. A boat rests by the bank at the far left, with trees and tall clouds behind the group.

The whole setting on the cloth

The photograph of the cloth itself shows the whole outdoor setting, including the dark rocks in the foreground and the figures at both edges. Broad pale clouds break up the blue sky, and the warm ground around the group draws the eye back to the centre.

It needs a generous wall

Rosi sewed it with 100% DMC threads in 37 colours. At 87 cm wide by 52 cm high, it needs a generous wall: above a sofa, in a dining room or in a hall where people can step back and take in the whole scene.

Every figure, fire and cloud was placed by hand.
